A Slower Kind of Stay: Our Time at Villa Lepak by the River

Why We Chose This Villa

When we were planning this part of our Bali trip, we knew we wanted a change of pace.
Ubud is known for its lush landscapes, rice fields, and slower rhythm, and we wanted somewhere that reflected that. Not just somewhere to sleep, but somewhere we could properly be for a few days.
What drew us to Villa Lepak was the riverside, jungle setting. There is something about being surrounded by nature and near water that instantly changes how a place feels. It softens everything.
We also loved the idea of a full service villa experience. When you are travelling with children, the balance between adventure and rest is important, and having that extra layer of support makes a huge difference.

Before we even arrived, things already felt reassuring.

The booking process through Villa Finder was straightforward and well managed. Communication was clear, timely, and helpful without being overwhelming. We have learned over the years that this part really matters because it sets the tone for everything that follows.

You never want to be landing in a new place, with tired children, wondering what happens next.

Here, everything was clear. Transfers, arrival details, and what to expect were all well communicated, which meant we could simply focus on enjoying the experience.

The Booking Experience

First Impressions

From the moment we arrived, you could feel the shift.

The villa is tucked away in a peaceful setting, surrounded by greenery, with the gentle sound of the river nearby. It is one of those places where you instinctively take a deep breath without even thinking about it.

The space itself is beautiful but not in an overly polished or intimidating way. It feels warm and welcoming, exactly what you want when travelling as a family.

The children immediately ran off to explore, which is always a good sign.

The Villa Itself

The layout worked perfectly for us.

Each of the bedrooms were spacious, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed, giving everyone their own space while still feeling connected as a family. This balance is something we always look for.

The outdoor areas were where we spent most of our time.

The pool quickly became the centre of our days. Morning swims, afternoon cool downs, and slower moments spent sitting nearby watching the children play.

The gardens are lush and well kept, adding to the overall sense of calm. You feel surrounded by nature, while still completely comfortable.

The Service

What really elevated this experience was the team.

There is something special about staying somewhere where the service feels natural and genuinely friendly rather than formal.

The villa was kept spotless throughout our stay, which with three children makes a real difference. Everything was quietly taken care of in the background, allowing us to fully relax.

Breakfast each morning was a highlight. Fresh, simple, and delicious. The kind of start to the day that feels easy but sets the tone perfectly.

One evening, we had dinner prepared by a private chef, and it became one of our favourite memories from the trip. Sitting together as a family, with everything taken care of, was incredibly special.

Living at a Different Pace

One of the things we have realised over time is that not every trip needs to be packed with activity.

Sometimes, the most valuable thing you can do is slow everything down.

At Villa Lepak, that happened naturally.

We were not rushing out early each morning or trying to fit everything in. The days unfolded in a relaxed way. A swim, breakfast, perhaps a short outing, then back to the villa.

Evenings were calm and unhurried.

And honestly, that is where the real value lies.

Travelling as a Family of Five

Finding accommodation that genuinely works for a family of five is not always easy.

You need space, comfort, and a layout that feels natural.

This villa delivered on all of that.

The children had space to play and be themselves, while we were able to relax without feeling like we were constantly managing the environment.

It felt like a home for those few days.

Final Thoughts

This stay reminded us of something simple but important.

Not every trip needs to be about doing more. Sometimes it is about choosing places that allow you to slow down and reconnect.

Villa Lepak gave us exactly that.

And those are the stays that stay with you the longest.

You may remember that we spent some time here at Pine Cliffs, A Luxury Collection Resort, back in Winter 2019 ( you can read our blog from this visit here ). It was by far, one of the most luxurious experiences we've ever had, really living up to that award as Europe's Best Luxury Family Resort. That European luxury just oozes a different kind of class when done right and they have really nailed it at Pine Cliffs . We always knew we would return, and this time, we wanted to experience the resort and its offerings, during the Summer Season.

If you have always dreamed of witnessing the stunning natural beauty of Iceland, you've probably already had a little browse for flights and hotels online. You may recognize one or two brands in the Reykjavik area, but for the most part, the hotel scene in Iceland is quite unique, with different kinds of privately owned properties, dotted sparsely in different areas. For these reasons, you have to do your research, but don't worry guys, we did it all in preparation for our visit! That's right, we looked at all the hotels, their reviews, their food, their facilities, prices and where they are located in relation to Iceland's most popular tourist spots. We quickly realized, that you can either choose somewhere to get your head down, or you can pick a hotel that will totally enhance your experience, and that is exactly what Hotel Ranga did. This is not the only fantastic hotel on the island, but it was our top pick! One of our community said it best, after we shared The Hotel Ranga experience through Instagram.....
Review of the 'Park Here, Fly There' package with Courtyard by Marriott Luton Airport
by Clare Fisher 10 November 2019
If you are frequent flyers like our family, consistently searching for flights out of different UK airports, you may have noticed some competitive flight fares going out of Luton in recent months. Despite having never flown from Luton before, we didn't hesitate to snap up some great deals from this airport! Wales has only one international airport, which has been in decline for many years. Although things seem to be looking up for Cardiff Airport recently, we still find the air fares pricey, and you're still limited with destinations. As a result, people who live in Wales are used to traveling to English airports to fly. Although Bristol and Birmingham are much closer, sticking on the M4 for an extra hour or two, doesn't feel like too much hassle for the extra options, and lower fares you can get from the London airports. If you're hesitant about flying from Luton, you really shouldn't be, especially if you've managed to bag yourself Courtyard by Marriott Luton's 'Park Here, Fly There' offer.

So our job is literally to scour the globe looking for the most unique, quirky and luxurious accommodations and experiences, but we've been neglecting our home country, Wales. It is consistently ranked in the top ten most beautiful countries in the world, often making it into the top 5! Earlier this year, on deciding to make the UK our home base for the time being, we already committed to exploring it more while we are home, but so many people ask us, "where should we stay when we come to Wales?' and we never have an answer! With this in mind, we went out of our way to start searching for the countries coolest places and this is our first find! Do you ever fantasize about picking up your dream luxury house and setting in down in nature with no one else around, nothing but the sounds of birds, fresh trickling water from the stream and the trees blowing in the wind? Well you will be happy to know that this is exactly what you get with The Lake House. The house is set on 80 acres of private meadow and woodland, next to a natural stream and it's own private lake.

'Pirates Adventure' is a show that has entertained over 3 million customers in the last 30 years, featuring world class acrobatics and incredible gymnasts, all in a purpose built theatre! The theatre is a famous landmark in Mallorca and a mecca for tourists and residents alike. Built in 1985 on open ground, it has been continually adapted and updated, to provide a distinctive and atmospheric venue. Known as the 'Ultimate Dinner Show', you are taken on a magical journey, through a time when pirate's ruled the Seven Seas! The tickets include the show itself, a two course buccaneer's feast and unlimited drinks! This particular show is suitable for all ages, but there is also an adult version, if you're traveling without children. There are four different seating categories to choose from, to suit all budgets and there is even a VIP experience with a backstage or 'below deck' tour! When we were invited along to experience Pirates Adventure , Mallorca's number one show, I didn't know what to expect. Everyone I know that has ever been to this show, absolutely raves about it, including Ian, who went when he was younger. However, I just couldn't understand how it could be 'that good', looking at the size of the theatre, the ticket price and knowing that so much was included within the price, food and drinks etc. I figured it would probably just be a nice evening, with a bit of entertainment and some snacks......I couldn't have been more wrong!
